As the current Play Parks at Corrie View are in a dilapidated state it was decided at a Rogart Community Council RCC meeting that they should be replaced. A satellite committee operating under the Rogart Development Trust RDT was set up comprising of:
Liz Allan – RDT Trustee
Shannon Sutherland – Chair
Kate Roach – Secretary
Committee members – Gordon Lyburn, Keira MacNeill, Heidi Rowlinson-Imhof and Paul Rowlinson
It was decided that the most suitable site was the area to the east of the playing field (where the old swings are standing) which could be made disabled accessible, as shown on the outline plan above.
With the RCC, RDT and the Gala Committee on board, a community consultation was carried out locally, with encouraging support from over 50 replies. Helpful comments and views from a Child Consultation (Nov 2024) and the Community Consultation (Jan 2026) are being taken into consideration and shaping the Play Park project, the most popular item being mentioned was a Zip wire and not just for the kids! To make the Gala field and new Play Park an attractive place for everyone, picnic tables will be installed along with several benches round the field for folk to relax and enjoy the views.
The Play Park Committee PPC are working closely with the Highland Council, as THC will be taking on the public liability and future maintenance of the Play Park. Four reputable suppliers (recommended by THC) have been approached for quotes. Once received, funding will be applied for from the Gordonbush Legacy Fund (supported by the RCC) and Kilbraur Windfarm. The PPC are aiming to have the Play Park up and running by the end of 2026.
In the meantime, a work party is being planned by the Committee members to cut down the willow hedging in the proposed Play Park site. The hedging is overgrown and beyond rescuing. We are aiming for some time during March, weather permitting. If anyone is interested in helping please contact Kate (07833641226). There will be tea/coffee and home baking on offer too!
